Dr. Esma Ugur has been an Emmy Noether Group Leader at the Department of Chemistry, LMU Munich, since February 2026. She joined LMU as a Research Associate in February 2025, following postdoctoral research and a Research Scientist position at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia.
Her research focuses on halide perovskites for photovoltaics and related optoelectronic devices. Combining materials synthesis, device fabrication, and advanced optoelectronic characterization, her group investigates how material properties and interfaces govern solar cell efficiency and stability.
A central focus of her DFG-funded Emmy Noether project, HOPE, is understanding how variations in composition, strain, and defects across different length scales affect device performance and degradation. By connecting nanoscale processes with the behaviour of complete devices, her team aims to establish design principles for durable and efficient next-generation energy technologies.
We warmly welcome Esma Ugur to CeNS and look forward to new collaborations across our interdisciplinary network!
