The physicist and CeNS member has been accepted into the prestigious organization along with 68 other researchers.
LMU physicist Ralf Jungmann, a leading international expert in the field of high-resolution microscopy, has been elected a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). EMBO brings together more than 2,100 outstanding scientists from Europe and around the world. Its goal is to promote talented researchers at all stages of their careers, strengthen international scientific exchange, and create an outstanding research environment in Europe.
Ralf Jungmann is Professor of Molecular Physics of Life at LMU and head of a research group at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry. With the DNA PAINT method he developed, he has established a novel technique for single-molecule analysis that enables biological structures to be visualized with unprecedented spatial resolution—a groundbreaking advance for basic research and biomedical applications. His work is shaping the field of research at the interface of physics, biology, and nanotechnology worldwide.
He will be formally inducted into EMBO together with 68 other researchers from 18 member states at the next members' meeting in Heidelberg in October.
“Being accepted into EMBO is a great honor for me and at the same time an incentive to further advance interdisciplinary research between physics and life sciences. I am particularly looking forward to the scientific exchange with EMBO members and the opportunity to specifically promote young talent,” said Jungmann.
