Petra Schwille receives Bavarian Order of Merit

CeNS member Prof. Dr. Petra Schwille, Director at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and Honorary Professor at LMU Munich, has been awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit by Bavaria’s Minister President Markus Söder. The prestigious award recognizes her outstanding scientific achievements and her dedicated engagement in science communication and the support of young researchers.

Prof. Schwille is a leading international expert in biophysics, renowned for her pioneering work in single-molecule research and synthetic biology. At the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, her group aims to build minimal biological systems capable of self-replication. Her research focuses on single-molecule techniques, the reconstitution of biological functions in artificial membranes, and the principles of cellular self-organization.
