Professor Olivia Merkel from the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy impressed the jury with her particularly clear and practical teaching of complex topics in pharmaceutical technology. Her teaching combines academic excellence with innovative pedagogical concepts and modern equipment. Through interactive lectures, research-based learning, and the integration of current topics such as nano-RNA delivery and artificial intelligence, she succeeds in actively engaging students and inspiring them in the long term. In addition, she creates an open and appreciative learning atmosphere and promotes the exchange between science and practice, for example through collaborations with industry.
“The award presented to Olivia Merkel and Klaus M. Schmidt is a special recognition of their extraordinary commitment to students,” says Professor Jochen Kuhn, Vice President for Innovation in Education and Teacher Training. “Excellent teaching is a central priority at LMU—it thrives on individuals who combine academic brilliance with pedagogical innovation. Both award recipients exemplify this commitment and play a key role in shaping our university as a place of inspiring education.”
The “Award for Good Teaching” is presented annually to recognize outstanding dedication and innovative concepts in higher education in Bavaria. The award underscores the high quality of teaching at LMU and the special importance of dedicated faculty members for academic success.
